Seasonal Incidence of Major Insect Pests of Brinjal (Solanum melongena L.)

Brinjal (Solanum melongena L.) is an important and indigenous vegetable crop of India, often known as the cash crop for the farmers. Leucinodes orbonalis Guenee is a major pest of brinjal crop. The yield loss due to the pest is to the extent of 70–92 per cent. It remained a major pest of brinjal since two decades. Adults population of brinjal shoot and fruit borer Leucinodes orbonalis Guenee fluctuated to a great deal not only from year to year but also in different months. Brinjal jassid, Amrasca biguttula biguttula Isida caused the severe damage to it and significantly affect its productivity and tastes. The population of Amrasca biguttula biguttula showed a significant positive correlation with maximum temperature and negative correlation with rainfall.
