Influence of Different Green Manuring Crops and Nitrogen Management on Yield, Quality and Fertility Status of Rabi Sweet Corn (Zea mays) Under North Gujarat Agroclimatic Condition

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted at Sardarkrushinagar to study the influence of different green manuring crops and nitrogen management on yield, yield attributes and economics of rabi sweet corn (Zea mays) during kharif-rabi season of 201213 and 2013–14. The experiment was laid out in split plot design and replicated four times, comprising of 15 treatment combinations with five treatments of kharif green manuring viz; control (greengram seed purpose), clusterbean (green manuring), horsegram (green manuring), cowpea (green manuring) and sunnhemp (green manuring) and three levels of nitrogen (90, 120, and 150 kg ha−1) in rabi season. Sunnhemp green manuring as well as 150 kg N ha−1 gave significantly higher green cob yield and dry matter production and quality parameters viz., protein(%), reducing sugar(%) total soluble sugar(%) and soil fertility statusviz., N, P2O5 and K2O kg/ha over rest of the treatments. The interaction effect of sunnhemp green manuring and 150 kg N ha1 was significant onprotein content, reducing sugar, total soluble sugar of sweet corn and available N& P2O5in soil.
