Abstract

A experiment was conducted at the research area of medicinal andaromatic plants under the department of crop physiology, J.N.K.V.V., Jabalpur (M.P) during the rabi season of 2007–08 in a randomized block designreplicated three time witha objective to screen out the Ocimum genotypes having physiological superiority with higher seed quality characters which could be utilized for improvement of Ocimum genotypes in a breeding programme. The results showed that quantification of seed quality characteristics indicated variable response. Genotypes O. basilicum JBP (62.66%) possessed the highest germinibility, BEC 387377 (6.88)-speed of germination, O. basilicum (9.86 cm)-seedling length, DIC 338776 (0.010 and 1.78 g)-seedling dry weight and seed index, O. basilicum (572.11)-vigour index, respectively.
