Effect of Temperature on Progeny Emergence of Sitophilus oryzae L. Feeding on Split Pulses

Abstract

An experiment was carried out at the Entomology Laboratory, Horticultural College and Research Institute for Women during 2013–2014 to study the F1 progeny and dobie index of rice weevil, Sitophilus oryzae L. under both room and controlled conditions. The number of F-1 progeny was higher in red gram (77.25 and 54.25 adults) followed by green gram (72.75 and 50.75 adults) under room and controlled temperature. The least number of F1 progeny was recordedinfriedgram (35.75 and 34.25 adults) under both temperature conditions. The dobie index increased in the orderof fried gram (11.92 and 11.78), black gram (12.73 and 11.22), lentil (12.82 and 12.21), chick pea (13.20 and 12.74), green gram (14.29 and 13.09), red gram (14.49 and 13.31) and sorghum (16.27 and 15.0) under room and controlled temperature respectively.
