Influence of Different Risk Factors on the Prevalence of Fasciolosis in Sheep Reared by the Nomads Near Bhubaneswar, Odisha

A cross sectional study was carried out to study the influence of different risk factors on the prevalence of fasciolosis in sheep reared by the nomads near Bhubaneswar, Odisha from July, 2011 to February, 2012. Out of 384 faecal sample examined, only 13 smaples were found positive for Fasciola spp. eggs giving an overall prevalence of 3.38%. Season had significant influence (P<0.02) on the infection rate with highe incidence in rainy season as compared to winter months. More infection was found in animals having poor body condition as comapredto that having good health (P<0.02). The disease was more frequently observed in older animals (>1year) as compared to younger animals (<1year) (P<0.05). No significant difference (P>0.05) was noticed in sexwise distribution of the disease.
