Impact of Community Based Tank Management Project on Socio-Economic Status and Crop Productivity of Beneficiary Farmers in Tumkur District of Karnataka State

Abstract

The study was carried out in Tumkur district of Karnataka State to know the impact of Community Based Tank Management Project (CBTMP) on socioeconomic status and crop productivity of beneficiary farmers during 2012. Totally 120 respondents were selected by random sampling method fromsixvillages and data were collected by personal interview method. The CBTMP has resulted in significant increase in socio-economic status of beneficiaries like agriculture occupation from 71.67 to 80.00 per cent. There was an increase in small and medium land holding farm families from 34.17 to 43.33 per cent and 23.33 to 28.33 per cent respectively, from marginal land holding. Whereas, annual income increased with respect to semi medium and medium income group farmers from 16.67 to 20.83 per cent and 26.67 to 51.67 per cent, respectively. The project had resulted in significant increase in crop productivity, yield of paddy increased (40%), Red gram (66.66%) and groundnut (88.33%). the study revealed positive impact on its beneficiaries and hence, the financial assistance coupled with technical guidance would increase the standard of living of the rural people.
