A field experiment was conducted to study the effect of incorporation of weed biomass and vermicompost prepared from such weed biomass at two nitrogen substitution levels viz., 25 and 50 percent of the recommended dose in rice in an acid inceptisol. Results showed significant increase in root growth, leaf area index, panicle number and yield of rice following addition of organic manures. Nitrogen substitution to the extent of 50 percent through organic manures resulted in significantly higher growth and yield components in rice over 25 percent substitution. Available phosphorus and potassium status of soil was also increased significantly with organic manures. Highest net return was obtained from the treatment receiving 50 percent through urea.
