Abstract

Sesame is as an important oilseed crop and the diseases are taking heavy toll of the productivity. The seed borne organisms not only reduce the quality but also have an effect on germination. In view of these, understanding of seed borne mycoflora, their detection and managementare important. The present investigation on collection of seed samples from different sesame growing districts of northern Karnataka undertaken during 20012-13 at Department of Plant Pathology, College of Agriculture, Bijapur, UAS, Dharwad. Nine fungi were noticed on sesame seed samples collected from different sesame growing areas of northern Karnataka. Alternaria sp. often appeared in many samples along with species of Aspergillus and Botrytis.
