Abstract

It is fact that agriculture and animal husbandry are inseparable occupations in rural area, considering immense important of dung and urine, there is urgent need to reduce the cost of animal husbandry occupation. It is known that 70 percent expenses of animal husbandry are to be required for animal nutrition. More than 60 percent expenses of animal nutrition are to be needed for green fodder as well as dry fodder. So it is necessary to make efficient use of green fodder as well as dry fodder which save considerable cost of nutrition to animals. Considering above said fact under the RKVY Project “Innovative approach for agricultural Extension activities by Village adoption” B.H.-18376, Two chaff cutter per village had been distributed in 15 adopted villages during year 2009–10. Chaff cutter is an agricultural instrument for cutting straw or hay into small pieces before being mixed together withother forage and fed to animals. This aids the animal`s digestion and prevents animals from rejecting any part of their food. In this way, there is savings in fodder, increase in milk & increase in fat of milk. Keeping in a view the above said fact, this study was carried out to know the Advantages perceived by the chaff cutter users under RKVY project. The results revealed that there are greater advantages of chaff cutter in terms of saving in folder (up to 40%), increase in milk production (up to 8% i.e. up to 80 ml per liter), increase in fat of milk (up to 7% i.e. up to 0.49 fat) and saving in time for cutting fodder (up to 50%) as perceived by the farmers of Middle Gujarat Agro-Climatic Zone (AES II).
