Abstract

The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Human Resource Management (HRM), especially in hiring processes, has brought about significant transformation. AI-powered tools are increasingly employed to screen resumes, evaluate interviews, and predict candidate success, offering speed, efficiency, and consistency. However, careful consideration must be given to the ethical ramifications of such automation. Algorithmic bias, a lack of transparency, and risks to candidate privacy are major issues. Discrimination can be sustained by algorithms trained on skewed historical data, and accountability is hampered by opaque decision-making procedures. Privacy concerns are further raised by the gathering and use of personal information without express consent. These hazards are demonstrated by well-known instances like Hire Vue’s use of facial analysis and Amazon’s biased recruiting tool. This study explores real-life instances and regulatory developments and also investigates these ethical issues. The study suggests a paradigm that prioritizes bias audits, human oversight, transparency, and inclusive design to direct the ethical application of AI in recruiting. To guarantee equitable, responsible, and considerate AI use, it urges interdisciplinary cooperation between HR specialists, legal professionals, and technologists. In the end, even if AI has a lot of promise to improve hiring procedures, its application needs to be constrained by strict ethical guidelines. By ensuring that AI in hiring fosters fairness and equality rather than undercuts it, responsible adoption can assist firms in striking a balance between innovation and integrity.
