Job satisfaction describes how content an employee is with his or her job. The happier people are the more satisfied one. Job satisfaction is a very important attribute, which is frequently measured by organisations. Job satisfaction has been defined as a pleasurable emotional state resulting from the appraisal of one's job; an affective reaction to one's job; and an attitude towards one's job. The purpose of this paper is to prove the linkage between various organisational factors contributing towards job satisfaction and work outcomes; to investigate how employees perceive these factors and what they expect of their workplace and to consider the usefulness of the gap approach in measuring employees’ expectations. Job satisfaction in organisations has been receiving increasing attention because it reduces employee turnover, absenteeism, tardiness and health setbacks due to stress. Workers who are satisfied at their work places show positive attitudes in their homes and make a psychologically healthy society. The present study attempts to measure the “job satisfaction” and “meeting expectations” levels of employees of tourism and hospitality industry in Odisha.
