Abstract

The banking environment is becoming a highly pressured one especially after globalisation. Bank executives are highly affected by their work pressures and also by their work–life imbalance. The work–life imbalance among them affects their performance not only in banks but also at home. It results in poor performance. This study has made an attempt to identify the important antecedents of work–life imbalances. Many banks are learning the hard way that whether it is in their banking operations or on their frontline teller ranks, performance issues are not always linked to the lack of job skills but may also be impacted by poor cause identification, inefficient work schedules, continuous overtime, lack of adequate transportation or other personal issues that flood the worksites and diminish their performance. The quota sampling method was followed. A survey was conduced and data were analysed on the basis of responses provided by 132 sales personnel respondents concerned with different banks. Different statistical techniques were used. The result of this study may have practical significance for human resource managers especially of banks to improve staff commitment and productivity along with designing their recruitment and retention policies.
