Abstract

The humane side of Tata Steel is a quality the company has inherited from its legendary founding fathers. The limitless vision of J.N. Tata foresaw the benefits of holistic integration and empowerment of labour in particular and the society in general. The company imbibes Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities which includes Affirmative Actions (AA) as one of the core business processes. The Tata name evokes sense of trust, credibility and integrity to many millions of stakeholders. It believes in honesty of purpose in whatever it does. This company has traditionally been driven by the core value of its responsibility towards the society, apart from integrity, understanding, excellence and unity. Tata Steel has been a pioneer in driving affirmative actions for the upliftment of the community at large since decades. It has been an inspiring story. In this paper, an honest attempt has been made to unfold the saga of the activities undertaken by the company through several interventions. It has contributed significantly in enhancing socioeconomic prosperity to the beneficiaries.
