Haryana achieved a significant growth in agricultural production during green revolution which made it self sufficient in food grain production. Although more than two-third of its population is engaged in agriculture sector, the question of stable and sustainable agricultural production among the different crops still remains relevant due to trends of instability in different crops under cultivation in this region. The various factors leading to measurement of instability in this sector can be analysed through an evaluation of variables such as production, area of cultivation, yield and so on. In the present piece of research work, the stability as well as instability in production among different crops in the state of Haryana has been taken into consideration. The paper explains growth in production to find out the level of stability in major crops while exhibiting the extent of instability in the production of major crops. The results indicate that only a few crops such as rice and wheat show trends of stability while the coarse cereals and pulses remain highly instable in terms of production in the state. In brief, a high instability is detected in coarse cereals and reveals a need for diversification of resources in mono-crop culture in the state.
