Water is one of the most vital resource of all the natural resources known to earth. The safety of drinking water is essential for the health purpose. The water quality is affected by various chemical and microbiological contaminants. Such contaminant causes serious health problems. World Health Organization (W.H.O, 1984) estimated that 80% of all diseases are directly or indirectly related to the contamination of water. Globally 2.6 billion people on this planet earth rely on unsafe drinking water. The water which is colorless, odorless, free from pathogens, pH in the range of 6.5 8.5 is commonly called potable water. The present research work is an attempt to investigate quality of drinking water at different locations of Allahabad metropolitan city. Which covered the Physico-Chemical and microbiological parameters and the effect of contaminated water as related to human health. Due to illiteracy and various human activities the quality of drinking water in this area is likely to change and it is not good indicator as regard to human health. Comparison of parameters analysis with Bureau of Indian Standard (B.I.S, 2012) And World Health Organization (W.H.O, 1984) revealed that these sample Water cannot be absolutely fit for direct drinking. This can be deleterious to the health of people and thus corrective measures are necessary to safeguard public health.
