Access to adequate housing and basic amenities are essential for human development. In the present study, an attempt has been made to examine the status of housing and basic amenities and to find out the levels of its deprivation among scheduled castes. For the study, secondary data have been taken from census of India (2011). Statistical techniques like Z- Score and Karl Pearson Correlation Coefficient have been used to determine the levels of deprivation among scheduled caste. The study reveals that, in spite of initiative efforts made by government, scheduled castes are still deprived in terms of housing and its basic amenities. This study concludes that income improvement strategies, proper implementation of policies and enhancement of occupational hierarchy are some of the recommended strategies to reduce housing problems among the scheduled castes. However, the government and various NGOs should take some immediate actions for the proper implementation of policies and programmes to mainstreaming these backward sections of the society.
