Problems and prospects of transportation in Udaipur City, India

The present paper is an attempt to analyse the problems and prospects of transportation in Udaipur city. The study is based on primary data collected by field survey through the direct questionnaire to the respondents during 2014 in Udaipur city. The boundary of ward has been taken as the smallest unit of the study. The analysis of the study reveals that more than three-fourth household population was stucked in traffic jams in their daily routine lives in Udaipur city. Whereas, the largest proportion of households who faced daily traffic jam problem was found in Zone IV and the lowest in Zone I. Moreover, the maximum traffic problems were faced by household population at Delhigate, Walled city and Surajpole in the city. Furthermore, the majority of households felt the improvement in the existing services of transportation during evening time, and the households also need improvement in the speed and direct route system between places of their origin and destinations, and neat and clean public autos/buses in the city. Majority of the household population was willing to use good public transportation facilities as well as more than three-fourth households mostly preferred a safe route maps in the city.
