A spatial analysis of food insecurity and its determinants in Banda District of Bundelkhand region

The present paper is a simple attempt to identify level and severity of food insecurity in Banda district of Uttar Pradesh. The paper is based on empirical observation. The data of sixteen villages were obtained with help of collective questionnaire in 2018. Z score and Karl Pearson's techniques have been used to obtain valid result from the data. The overall study reveals that 56.92 per cent household (including 35.77 per cent hungry and 21.15 per cent moderately insecure households) in the district were food insecure. Most of the villages had more than 60 per cent households as food insecure. The major determinants of food insecurity found during study were BPL population, unemployment, illiteracy and high concentration of scheduled caste population. The acute poverty and high food insecurity in the district could be reduced through proper planning and development.
