A simple solar box type cooker has been designed and fabricated for cooking by utilizing the free fuel from the sun. The aperture area of the cooker is approximately 0.25 m2. In this article, a simple financial analysis of the present box type solar cooker has been outlined. The yearly benefits accrued to the user by installing solar cooker per annum, in the terms of fuel saving or the actual money saving, have been estimated. The thermal efficiency of the Solar Box Cooker (SBC) was around 34 per cent with a payback period of 5.33 years. The results have shown the installation feasibility of solar cookers and their financial attractiveness to the users along with environmental benefits.
