To combat the challenges of energy access and provide sustainable clean energy solutions to the un-served segments of the society in the rural and remotely located villages in the state of Assam, TERI has undertaken the initiative in association with Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) that intends to expand the livelihood options for these villages, where households are living without a clean source of light. This initiative extends to about 293 un-electrified households in the seven villages of the districts Golaghat and Karbi Anglong in the state of Assam by way of implementation of solar domestic systems (SDS) with a total installed capacity of 12.73 kWp.
During the course of the partnership between TERI and NRL, several technological innovations were initiated for the betterment of the community. Towards this, 293 SDS were deployed amongst the households of seven un-electrified and partially electrified villages of districts Golaghat and Karbi Anglong in the state of Assam. This paper examines the improvement in the quality of life of people by the promotion of SDS.
