EMS (environmental management system) provides a systematic approach for effective management of environmental issues of the organization in the process of sustainable development of the total environment. ISO 14001 certification for EMS, provides an opportunity of demonstrating environmental commitment to customers, regulators, employees, stakeholders, and the public. The overall aim of this system is to support environmental protection and prevention of pollution in balance with socio-economic needs. The paper gives insight into the concepts of EMS and its implementation and also advantages of ISO 14001 certification. (2 figures, 6 references)
