Lithium-ion batteries offer superior characteristics in terms of energy and power density, and have been widely in application when size, weight, and performance are critical. The sodium nickel chloride battery is a high-temperature battery, which provides 75 miles of range and is expected to last 1250 discharge cycles at 80% depth of discharge. The SUV (sport utility vehicle) designed by the University of California, provides four-wheel drive capability via an all-electric front axle.
