This paper focuses on the characterization of fly ash by two different collection methods, that is, ESP and bag house, and its suitability for use in cement mortar and concrete, as per the national and international standards. Maximum utilization of PFA (pulverized fuel ash) is possible in construction material. This paper demonstrates the comparative study of ash with respect to its chemical composition and particle size distribution from each row of electrostatic precipitators and bag house to determine effectiveness in use as a pozzolana in the manufacture of cement and as an admixture in cement mortar, concrete, and other applications. From the study it has been revealed that pulverized fuel as from 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th rows (from boiler end) of electrostatic precipitator can be directly used in cement mortar and concrete, but ash from bag house needs to be processed or segregated to modify its physical characteristics.
