Abstract

Technology touches every aspect of our lives and the classrooms are no exception to it. Technology Integration in classrooms refer generally to curricula, utilizing authentic tasks that intentionally and actively promote students to process information to construct meaning. Review of literature indicates that integrating technology in schools/classroom curriculum provides children with an instructional, self directed and student centered learning opportunity in ways that are both acceptable and beneficial to them. This aids in developing the 21st century skills such as critical thinking and problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills, collaboration and team work, creativity and innovation, information, leadership skills; sufficiently equipping them to meet the challenging demands of the constantly evolving global scenario. The present paper attempts to provide a comprehensive overview with regards to the role and contribution of integrating technology in the school/classroom curriculum, the pre-requisites, principles and models around which technology can be incorporated in the curriculum with special focus on trends in the 21st century is emphasized certain barriers associated with the successful integration of technology in classrooms and certain suggestions/recommendations to mitigate their effect.
