Abstract

The present study was undertaken to study the quality and effectiveness of orientation and refresher programmes organized by UGC- Academic Staff College, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur. 75 senior college teachers from Colleges of Nagpur city were selected by purposive sampling method. The data on quality and effectiveness were collected using questionnaire method. The questions related to objectives of Orientation Programme, infrastructure, discipline, quality of resource persons, reading material, evaluation methodology and impact on professional development were asked on five point scale. The significant trend of opinion was assessed using ÷2 test at cut off level of 5%. The results of the study revealed that majority teachers showed the higher level of satisfaction for the quality of orientation and refresher courses organized by ASC. Majority teachers showed satisfaction for the quality of resource persons, reading materials developed as well as in the transparency in evaluation methodology. Majority teachers also opined that the courses helped them to achieve professional development. Thus it can be concluded that the Academic Staff college, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University is organizing a quality programmes for the teachers and empowering them in their professional development.
