India completed more than six decades after independence; during these years, the country has completed eleven five year plans of development. Engineering education is a basic and essential input for national development and strengthening of the industry, economy and finally improving the quality of life of the people. The future success of Indian industry depends on the growth of quality engineering education. Educating the engineer for next generation has assisted in establishing the criterion for an engineer that can add value to a company and to society as well in 2020 and beyond. In this paper some recommendations are proposed which are also agreed by professional societies, if the engineering institutions followed these recommendations, then it will improve the quality of engineering education in India.
