Abstract

Acute upper respiratory infection is the major cause of morbidity and mortality in developing countries. The objectives of the study were to assess whether there was a reduction in the signs and symptoms of acute upper respiratory infection and changes in behavioral responses of the children who received steam inhalation compared to children who did not receive steam inhalation. The design used was Quasi experimental multiple treatment time series with control group. The study was conducted on 50 children with acute upper respiratory infection from the different areas of a community. The tool used were structured interview technique and observational checklist method.

The overall mean score for signs and symptoms and behavioral responses of children with AURI was significant showing the effectiveness of steam inhalation with Tulsi for AURI.
