Economic burden and mental stress on second wave of Covid 19 among daily labours

Abstract

A second wave pandemic has constitutes an imminent threat to society, with a potentially immense toll in human lives. Besides causing financial and physical problems, it has also affected daily labours mentally, creating panic in their minds. It has created several impact on economic, social, connected with health policy and associated with physical and mental health.

The present aim of the study is to assess the economic burden and mental health outcomes among daily labours in Avadi, Chennai.

A quantitative approach with cross-sectional descriptive study was used in this study. The 30 samples who met the inclusion criteria were selected by Convenience sampling technique. The demographic data were collected using a structured questionnaire, followed by level of economic burden was assess by standardized questionnaires PHQ-9 on 2 nd wave of covid19 lockdown. The level of stress was assessed by standardized questionnaire perceived stress scale.

The study reveals that significant number of daily labour were affected by 43% higher level of economic burden with following has 53.3% high level of stress.

Hence the study suggests that the second wave COVID-19 pandemic is causing severe stress and also causing high economic burden in daily labours. Therefore, it is equally important to focus on the mental health issues and their economic burden of this vulnerable population.
