Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the most ancient diseases of mankind, with molecular evidence going back to over 17,000 years. According to World Health Organization, TB is a worldwide pandemic. TB is one of the top three infectious killing diseases in the world. The organ system most commonly affected includes the respiratory system, the gastrointestinal (GI) system, the lymphoreticular system, the skin, the central nervous system, the musculoskeletal system, the reproductive system, and the liver. In India, TB is a major health problem, causing about 220,000 deaths every year. But tuberculosis is preventable and treatable.
