Monkey Pox

Monkey pox is a viral zoonosis (a virus transmitted to humans from animals). Monkey pox virus is part of the same family of viruses as variola virus that causes smallpox. Monkey pox symptoms are similar to smallpox symptoms, but milder, and monkey pox is rarely fatal. The time from exposure to onset of symptoms ranges is usually from 6 to 13 days but can vary from five to twenty-one days. Small pox vaccine, cidofovir, ST-246 and vaccination immune globulin (VIG)can be used to control monkey pox out break. Nurses play a vital role in creating awareness to the family members about the precautions to prevent the spread of infection.
