School children are future generation of tomorrow. According to UNICEF, age group of 6 to 12 years are considered as the school age children. They have a consistent but slow rate of growth and usually eat four to five times a day including snacks. Maintaining their health, growth and development is very important during this age group. The eating habits in children are developed at birth and is generally continued up to adulthood. The food choices influence the eating habits. Family, friends and the media influence their food choices and eating habits. The study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of VATP on knowledge and practice regarding Rainbow Nutrition among school children at selected schools, Salem. A total of 100 school children were selected. The tool used were demographic variables, structured questionnaire and checklist regarding Rainbow Nutrition. The data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. To test the hypotheses, paired, independent ‘t’ test, correlation ‘r’ value and chi- square was used. The 0.05 level of significance was used to test the hypotheses. The result of this study showed that VATP was effective in gaining adequate knowledge and practice regarding Rainbow nutrition. There was a significant positive correlation between knowledge and practice regarding Rainbow nutrition among school children in the experimental group. There was no significant association between the pre test scores on knowledge and practice regarding Rainbow nutrition among school children and their selected demographic variables in experimental and control group.
