Drug abuse and illicit trafficking are continuously posing a significant threat to individual, family and community across the world. The study aims at assessing the effectiveness of awareness program on drug abuse among school children at selected school, Chennai.
To assess the pre-test and post-test level of knowledge on drug abuse and to evaluate the effectiveness of awareness program on drug abuse among school children. To associate the posttest knowledge on awareness program with their demographic variables.
Pre experimental one group pre- test and post-test design was adopted and 100 samples were selected by using non-probability purposive sampling technique (n=100). Self- structured questionnaire was used to assess the pretest knowledge and followed by awareness program on drug abuse was given to the samples. After one week the post test was done by same questionnaire.
The findings of the study revealed that awareness program had improved the knowledge on drug abuse with paired t test(P <0.001). There is statistically significant improvement in knowledge score which shows the effectiveness of awareness program.
The result of the study showed that awareness program was effective helped the school children to improve their knowledge about complications of drug abuse and its management.
