Knowledge and Attitude Regarding Rabies and its Management Among the Dog Bite Victims -A Cross-Sectional Study

Abstract

A cross-sectional study was conducted to assess the knowledge and attitude about rabies its management among the dog bite victims of a rural area in Coimbatore Tamil Nadu. The investigator used structured interview questionnaire to collect information on socio-demographic factors, knowledge about rabies, attitude among 50 participants with history of dog bite. This study finding showed that the only (29% vs 28%) participants had adequate knowledge and positive attitude about rabies and its managementand there is a strong positive correlation (0.7829) between knowledge and attitude. This study highlights the need to promote knowledge regarding wound care and post-exposure prophylaxis at the event of a dog bite.
