Abstract

Every year in India, 5 lakh children die due to vaccine-preventable diseases. Another 89 lakh children remain at risk, because they are either unimmunized or partially immunized against vaccine-preventable diseases. The Government of India has launched Mission Indradhanush on 25 December 2014 as a special drive to vaccinate all unvaccinated and partially vaccinated children and pregnant women by 2020 under the Universal Immunization Programme. The mission focuses on interventions to improve full immunization coverage in India from 65% in 2014 to at least 90% children in the next five years. Under Mission Indradhanush, the government has identified 201 high focus districts across the country that have nearly 50% of all unvaccinated or partially vaccinated children in the country. To strengthen and invigorate the program and achieve full immunization coverage for all children at a rapid pace, the Government of India launched Mission Indradhanush in December 2014. Mission Indradhanush will ensure that all children under the age of two years and pregnant women are fully immunized with all available vaccines.
