Abstract

The aim of the study was to assess the effectiveness of stretching exercise on muscle cramps among patients undergoing hemodialysis. The research methodology of the study was quantitative approach. The research design selected for the study was quasi experimental design. Tool for data collection was numerical pain scale. The sample of the study comprised of hemodialysis patient of selected dialysis unit who fulfilled the inclusion criteria and sample size was 60 including study and control group. Purposive sampling technique was used to select the Participants and the study was conducted at MMM dialysis unit. The findings revealed that in pre test level of muscle cramps in hemodialysis patient in experimental group 11(36.67%) had severe muscle cramps, 18(60%) had moderate muscle cramps, 1(3.33%) had mild muscle cramps. Similarly in control group 16(53.33%) had severe muscle cramps, 14(46.67%) had moderate muscle cramps and none of them had mild muscle cramps. The post test level of muscle cramps in hemodialysis patient in experimental group was 4(13.33%) severe muscle cramps, 16(53.33%) had moderate muscle cramps, 10(33.33%) had mild muscle cramps. In contrast, the findings of the control group 10(33.33%) had severe muscle cramps, 20(66.67%) had moderate muscle cramps and none of them had mild muscle cramps.
