Abstract

The aim of the study was to assess the effectiveness of Information Education Communication (IEC) package on knowledge regarding health hazards of junk foods among the school going children through pre-experimental one group pre-test and post-test design. A purposive sampling technique was chosen for the study. Sample size consisted of 60 samples and the study was conducted at Govindha Reddy Palayam, Vellore. The data was collected by means of demographic variables and multiple choice questionnaire to assess the levels of knowledge regarding health hazards of junk foods. The major findings of the study revealed that pre-test mean value of levels of knowledge was 10.5. After the Information Education Communication (IEC) package the post-test mean value of levels of knowledge was 14. The paired “t ” value of levels of knowledge 17.37 is greater than table value (6.87) which was highly significant at p < 0.001 level. Hence there was significant effectiveness of Information Education Communication (IEC) Package on levels of knowledge regarding health hazards of junk food. There was no association between the post-test levels knowledge with selected demographic variables.
