Abstract

India is a country with a wide range of topographic and climatic conditions, is prone to a number of natural disasters. India has coastline of about 8, 000 km, which is prone to serve cyclonic formation in Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal. Every year disasters take lives, cause significant damage, inhibit development and contribute to conflict and forced migration. Unfortunately, the trend is an upward one. The root causes of the disaster were social, in particular widespread poverty, conflict-induced migration and problematic land-use practices.
