Abstract

Background:Blindness is a chronic and major health problem but has received relatively little attention in worldwide efforts to promote health. Health inequities are also related to the level of knowledge about the health conditions and the health seeking behaviour of the community members. Objectives: To assess the reproductive health issues of visually challenged women and to identify the health seeking behaviour of visually challenged women. Methods: A descriptive study was conducted among 18 visually challenged women by using convenient sampling technique at Coimbatore and data was collected by a semi-structured interview schedule. Results: Results reveal that,60% of them attained menarche between the age of 13 and 15 years and about 40% of them reported history of abortions. Conclusion: The study suggests that in general, there is an urgent need to improve the health care seeking behaviour of the community, especially addressing issues related to gender discrimination.
