Abstract

Anemia is most prevalent nutritional problem worldwide and is, mainly caused due to nutritional deficiency. Adolescents are vulnerable in developing anemia and the iron needs are higher especially in girls due to growth spurts, weight gain, blood volume expansion, onset of menarche and menstruation. Hence, effective intervention is paramount in prevention and control of anemia. Objectives: To evaluate the effectiveness of CIP on hemoglobin status and menstrual bleeding among anemic adolescent girls. Methodology: Total 162 (81 in each group) anemic adolescents participated in the study. Experimental group participants were provided with CIP for 12 weeks and were assessed hemoglobin level and menstrual bleeding in pretest and posttest. Results: Highly significant changes observed between pretest and posttest of experimental group and between control and experimental group (posttest) (p<0.001).Also significant percentage of changes identified in the number days of menstrual bleeding among the experimental group participants in the posttest. Conclusion: The results of the study proved that the CIP is highly effective in improving the hemoglobin level and reducing the number of days of menstrual bleeding among anemic adolescent girls.
