Abstract

Capgras syndrome is a delusional misidentification syndrome and is characterized as a delusion of doubles. People who experience this syndrome will have an irrational belief that someone they know or recognize has been replaced by an imposter. It occurs more frequently in women, blacks and schizophrenics. It is caused due to disconnect between the visual part of the brain and the area that processes facial familiarity, due to damage of frontal lobe and right hemisphere damage. There is no standard diagnosis and management for this syndrome. The management of Capgras syndrome is challenging, a multidisciplinary team is required to provide the care effectively.
