Abstract

Operative anxiety is encountered in patients posted for surgery. Hence this research focuses on preoperative teaching module for anxiety among patients undergoing spinal anaesthesia. After obtaining written informed consent, patients undergoing spinal anaesthesia who fulfilled the inclusion criteria was recruited and enrolled in selected hospitals at Erode. Quasi experimental pre and posttest control group design was used in this study. Purposive sampling technique was used to recruit the study subjects. The total sample size was 150 subjects out of which 75 in experimental group and 75 in control group. Pretest was done by using Spielberger State Anxiety Inventory (STAI-S). Socio demographic profile was appraised in both the groups. Preoperative teaching module was given for 2030 minutes, once on previous day of surgery, through slide show. Control group received standard methods of care. Posttest was conducted by using the same anxiety inventory in experimental and control group. Paired 't' test & Unpaired 't' test showed statistical significance in reducing the level of anxiety in experimental group compared to the control group.
