High risk behavior among undergraduate students

Abstract

The objective of the study was to assess the prevalence and awareness of high-risk behaviour among under graduate male students. Descriptive research design was adopted and the study was conducted at selected arts and science college in Salem. The sample size was 50 boys and the sampling technique was used probability sampling technique. Structured questionnaires prepared by the investigator were used to collect the data on prevalence of High-risk behaviour and the level of Awareness on High-risk behavior.

The major findings of the study are majority of the samples 41(82%) had moderately awareness on high-risk behaviour, 9(18%) had inadequate awareness and none of them had adequate awareness about high-risk behavior. About prevalence, overall, 25% of college students reported that they are having high-risk behavior, among that maximum 27 (54%) students were violating traffic rule. There was no significant association was found between the awareness on high-risk behavior with selected demographic variables. Based on the findings, the study recommends that the students are required specialized training like life skills to manage the High-risk behaviors.
