Benefits and challenges of online classes among parents of nursing students

Abstract

The COVID-19 crisis has forced education systems worldwide to find alternatives to face-to-face instruction. As a result, online teaching and learning have been used by teachers and students on an unprecedented scale. This study was undertaken to Assess the Benefits & Challenges of Online classes among Parents of Nursing Students at Selected Nursing College, Chennai.

A descriptive correlational study was conducted among parents of nursing students who were selected through purposive sampling technique using survey approach. The data collection tools were validated and reliability was established. The modification and suggestions of experts were incorporated in the final preparation of tools. Benefits and challenges of online classes of nursing students were assessed by using the predetermined tools such as demographic variables, rating scale to assess the Benefits & challenges of online classes among parents of nursing students. The collected data were tabulated and analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics.

Mean and standard deviation of benefits were 35±6.37, Challenges were446.7±9.10. There was no statistically significant association between selected demographic variables of parents and challenges of online classes (p>0.05). There was no statistically significant association between selected demographic variables of parents and benefits of online classes (p>0.05).

This study findings will be useful for the parents of nursing students and health care professionals including nurses to plan strategies in improving their education using advanced technology. In turn, it improves the quality of education and helps them to overcome challenges in the future.
