Hyperventilation syndrome is a type of psychiatric emergency condition. It happens when the patient hyperventilates frequently with no underlying physical cause. Episodes can happen due to stress or anxiety or for no apparent reason.A 22-year-old novice nurse was admitted to the emergency department complaining of dizziness, shortness of breath, dry mouth, weakness, and confusion for the past 10 minutes.Her examination findings were a high respiratory rate of 41 breaths per minute, a BP of 118/95 mmHg, a pulse of 126 bpm, and oxygen saturation of 100%. She appeared to have numbness and tingling in her arms or around her mouth, muscle spasms in her hands and feet, chest pain, and palpitations.When I collected the history from her friend said she was absolutely normal 30 minutes before. She became sick after the senior faculty scolded her. The precipitating factor was that senior faculty scolded her; perpetuating factors expressed this symptom. It’s important to try to stay calm in acute cases of hyperventilation. The goal of treatment during an episode is to increase carbon dioxide levels in her body and work to slow her breathing rate.So, the patient was taught about breathing exercises like pursed-lip breathing. Pursed lip breathing is a technique that helps her control their oxygenation and ventilation. It involves inhaling through the nose and exhaling through the mouth at a slow, controlled flow. This helps to slow down her breathing. I asked her to hold her breath for short periods of time.UG and PG students also had an interaction with this client, and it was a different case for all of us.</sec></body></article></article></body></html>
