Positive Behavior Therapy encourages the clients suffering from stress to reduce the level of stress and helps the alcohol-dependent clients to stay away from situations that are associated with stress and to replace those situations with activities that are contrary to using alcohol. Living with a positive attitude in the life can make a world of difference in a personas success and the decision to become clean and sober.
This study was aimed to determine the effectiveness of positive behavior therapy upon stressamong alcoholic clients atselected community in Chennai.
The study was conducted using the descriptive correlational research design, Data was collected after obtaining permission from Principal, HOD of Mental Health and Community Health Nursing Department & Head of Research & Development- of Apollo College of Nursing, Chennai. The study was conducted at Wisdom DeAddiction center for Alcoholic clients at Saidapet, Chennai. The sample size was 30 Alcoholic clients. Initially level of Stress (before therapy) was assessed. Positive Behavior Therapy was practiced among the Alcoholic clients. It is one of the psychological intervention which facilitates sound mental health, leading to better adjustment through relaxation techniques, counseling, exercises and Behavioral assignments. This is done on daily basis for 60 minutes in morning for a period of six consecutive days. Techniques of Positive Behavior Therapy were demonstrated by the researcher. The level of Stress, (after therapy) was assessed again for the Alcoholic clients three days of intervention. Then, the level of satisfaction on Positive Behavior Therapy was assessed among the Alcoholic clients. The data obtained were analyzed using Descriptive and inferential statistics.
Majority of them were exited when they first consumed alcohol (76.67%), consumed alcohol every day (76.67%), and used fermented beverages (80%). Significant percentage of the Alcoholic clients had moderate level of stress (67%) before Positive Behavior Therapy. However, after Positive Behavior Therapy majority of them had moderate (84%) level of stress at p>0.05.
The level of stress has reduced after administration of Positive Behavior Therapy, when compared to before administration of Positive Behavior Therapy among Alcoholic clients. This implied that Positive Behavior Therapy is effective in reducing the level of stress.
