Sudarshan Kriya Yoga on depression and anxiety among alcoholic dependants

Abstract

An evaluative study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of Sudarshan Kriya Yoga in reduction of depression and anxiety among alcoholic dependents in selected de-addiction centres, Coimbatore. 60 clients who have fulfilled the criteria were selected by using purposive sampling technique (30 for experimental group and 30 for control group). Pre test level of depression and anxiety was assessed by using Beck depression Inventory scale and Zung anxiety rating scale. The experimental group received Sudarshan Kriya Yoga daily 1 hour for 30days and then post test was assessed. The independent ‘t’ value of depression was 13.37 and independent ‘t’ value of anxiety was 9.78 which was significant at p<0.05. The study findings revealed that Sudarshan Kriya Yoga was helpful in reduction of depression and anxiety among alcoholic dependents.
