Research gap exist with gender role stereotypes and requisite managerial characteristics among psychiatric nursing professionals. The purpose of this study was to investigate men and women psychiatric nurses ’role with male and female patients and nurse managers with respect to gender role stereotypes and requisite managerial characteristics. The study subjects comprises of 25 men and 25 women psychiatric nurses recruited on the basis of random observation survey in selected general hospital psychiatric unit at Erode. Modified SDI (Schein's Descriptive Index) was used as a tool. Results revealed that men role stereotypes and requisite managerial characteristics favours much more than the women psychiatric nurses. There was a strong and significant resemblance between the overall ratings of men and nurse managers with the resemblance of women and nurse managers significantly weaker.
