Exam anxiety reduction intervention among adolescents.

Abstract

Present study is to assess the effectiveness of exam anxiety reduction intervention among adolescents in selected Government school at Madurai. 50 adolescent students were selected by random sampling method with the age group of 15–18 years studying in school. The exam anxiety was evaluated by Test Anxiety Inventory questions (Spielberger 1980) comprised of 20 items to evaluate exam anxiety among adolescents. The study was conducted and data were collected from the subjects, analyzed by using descriptive (Mean, Standard Deviation) and inferential (Student Paired't ’test method and Chi square) statistical method. The study showed that exam anxiety was identified in the pre test 26 (52%) adolescents with moderate, and 21 (42%) of them with mild. Exam anxiety reduction module were study, learning skills, time management, memory enhancement, and relaxation techniques that reduced the exam anxiety among the adolescents and it was proven by student paired ‘t ’method and its t value is =2.6 and for that concurrent table value 1.96 shows that statistically highly significant at 0.05 level. The study concluded that majority of study subjects had moderate Exam Anxiety and the anxiety reduction module is necessary to reduce anxiety, improve in their studies to succeed in their exams.
