Virtual reality therapy upon psychological wellbeing among nursing students

Abstract

Psychological wellbeing is multifaceted concept. Virtual reality therapy is a type computer based mind body exercise which helps in improving the psychological wellbeing of nursing students. A true experimental study (with pre test and post test design) was conducted to assess the effectiveness of Virtual Reality Therapy upon Psychological wellbeing among GNM Students at Selected Nursing Schools, Chennai. Sample included 60 students (30 in control group and 30 in experimental group), who were selected using simple random sampling technique-lottery method. Selected samples were randomly assigned to control and experimental group. Data was collected using Ryff”s psychological wellbeing scale through self administration method. Results revealed that Psychological wellbeing scores of nursing students before Virtual reality therapy (M=154.59, 151.06, SD=23.33, 20.25) between control and experimental group was not statistically significant (P > 0.05). Whereas after Virtual reality therapy Psychological wellbeing scores of nursing students (M=147.26, 208.00, SD=23.33, 13.46) between control and experimental group was statistically significant (P < 0.001). The above findings revealed that Virtual reality therapy is effective in improving psychological wellbeing.
