Abstract

Many families or care givers find it very difficult to give the medication and stressful to look after the mentally ill. Present study was conducted to assess the knowledge on medication management among the caregivers of mentally ill patients. This study was conducted using descriptive correlational research design, among 30 caregivers of mentally ill patients, who were selected using purposive sampling technique at selected private hospital at Chennai. The data was collected by self administration method using structured questionnaire on medication management. The findings of the study revealed that 14(47%) care givers had adequate knowledge and 16(53%) of them had moderately adequate knowledge about medication management. It highlights the need for empowering the caregivers of mentally ill patients about the medication management to improve drug compliance, promote the functioning capacity of mentally ill patients and prevent relapses
